Inaugural lecture for OPEN

Professor Michael Wood, PhD FCGI, gave the inaugural lecture for OPEN: ‘Pathways For Up-Skilling Working Engineers and the associated Industry–Academia Partnerships to enable those Engineering Gateways’.  Professor Wood, a UK visiting Professor at Aston and Sheffield Universities gave an informative and well-received presentation to the invited audience of academics and industrial leaders.  Professor Mike Wood is a Mechanical Engineer with a background in ‘Structural Health Monitoring’,  who is both a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Scientist, with over 30 years of experience of running a successful engineering consultancy business that touches a wide range of industries: aeromechanical, electromechanical, nuclear, structural and vibration engineering.  He spoke about the general up-skilling environment in the UK and his work with Aston University as the lead Professional Supervisor for APEC Professional Engineering degree streams that focus on substantial equivalence of competence standards for professional engineers.
